Motion and Forces

TermDefinition
Position Describes the location of an object
Reference Point A location to which you compare other locations
Motion A change in position over time
Speed A measure of how far an object moves in a given amount of time
Vector A quantity that has both size and direction
Velocity Speed in a different direction
Acceleration The rate at which velocity changes
Centripetal Force Acceleration in a circular motion
Force A push or pull
Net Force The combination of all forces acting on an object
Inertia The tendency in all objects to resist a change in motion
Gravity A force in attraction between objects due to their mass
Free Fall When gravity is pulling down and no other forces are acting on it
Orbit When an object travels around another object in space
