Motion and Forces

TermDefinition
Position Describes the location of an object
Speed How far something moves in a given amount of time
Reference Point A location to which you compare other locations
Vector Quantity that has both size and direction
Motion Change in position over time
Velocity Speed in a specific direction
Acceleration The rate at which velocity changes
Centripetal Acceleraton Acceleration in a circular motion
Force A push or pull
Net Force The combination of all the forces acting on an object
Inertia Tendency of all objects to resist a change in motion
Gravity A force of attraction between objects due to their mass
Free Fall Gravity is pulling an object down and no other forces are acting on it
Orbit An object traveling around another object in space
