Proton/Electron

Flash cards about the Elements.

QuestionAnswer
How many protons does the element Oxygen have? Eight.
How do you calculate how many neutrons there are in each atom? You subtract the atomic number from the average atomic mass. (Ex. C (Carbon); you would take the Average Atomic Mass (12) and the atomic number (6) and subtract both of them, you will find out that there are 6 neutrons in the atom Carbon.)
What is a shorter way to say an element? This is called the "Element Symbol".
Where did they come up with the Element symbol for the Element? (Ex. Na (Sodium)) It comes from the Greek or Latin of the Element's name.
Why are some of the atomic masses in parentheses? (Ex. Polonium (209)) If the number is in parentheses, then it refers to the atomic mass of the most stable isotope.
How many protons does the element Iron (Fe) have? twenty-six.
Why isn't the Element Symbol for Iron (Fe) not Ir? (Fe) is the Greek or Latin term for Iron.
Average Atomic Mass for Sodium (Na)? 22.99.
Mass number for Nickel (Ni)? 58.69---->59.
What is a proton? A stable subatomic particle occuring in all atomic nuclei , with a positive electric charge equal in magnitude to that of an electron, but of opposite sign.
True or False. Does an electron have a positive charge? False. It has a negative charge.
