Literary terms
| Terms | Definition |

| Plot | The main events of a play, novel, or movie. |
| Conflict | The problem in the story. |
| Setting | Where or when the event takes place. |
| Characterization | 1. Physical Description. 2.A character's speech, feelings, thoughts, or actions. 3.The speech, feelings, thoughts, or actions of other character. 4. Direct comments about character's nature. |
| Foreshadowing | Hints and clues on what might happen in the future. |
| Flashback | Set in a time earlier than the main story. |
| Point of view | who is telling the story. First person: I, me, We Second person Third person: He, she, they |
| Protagonist | The main character of the story ( the good guy) |
| Antagonist | The main source of the conflict ( the bad guy) |
| Point of view | Omniscient third person: Narrator appears to know what everyone is thinking and feeling. Question: Ask yourself is the narrator reliable. |
| Symbol | a person, place, thing, or event used to stand for something abstract,such as an idea or emotions, in a literary work. |
| Theme | Theme is the main idea and the author's statment. |
