Motivation
Term | Definition |

incentive value | the value of a goal above and beyond its ability to fill a need |
primary motives | innate, natural motives based on biological needs |
secondary motives | motives based on learned needs, drives, and goals |
stimulus motives | innate, natural motives based on mental needs for stimulation (action) and information (satisfying curiosity). |
Abraham Maslow | hieracrchy of needs that gains depth and complexity with development- physiological comfort, safety, belonging and love, esteem, self-actualization |
intrinsic motivation | comes from within, based on personal enjoyment of a task or activity |
extrinsic motivation | comes from without, based on external rewards |
