Forces
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Terminal Velocity | When air resistance balances gravity and maximum velocity is reached |
| Force | A push or pull |
| Balanced Forces | Equal in magnitude and opposite in direction - net force is zero |
| Unbalanced Forces | Not equal in magnitude or not opposite in direction - net force is greater than zero |
| Friction | A force that works against motion when two surfaces are in contact |
| Static friction | The counter force when two surfaces in contact have no motion relative to each other |
| Sliding friction | The counter force when one surface slides over another surface |
| Rolling friction | The counter force between the part of a wheel in contact with a surface and the surface |
| Air Resistance | A force that opposes motion through the air; the sum of all the collisions of an object with gas molecules |
| Net Force | The force remaining after adding or subtracting all forces acting on an object |
| Counter Force | A force that opposes motion |
| Free Fall | When a falling object is only affected by gravity |
| Microweld | Interlocking microscopic ridges and valleys that cause friction |
