What are the 3 things to know about conditioning? 1. conditioning happens to everyone 2. occurs without awareness 3. it is continuous
What is habituation? When you get used to any stimulus
What is extinction? when a behavior is no longer reinforced every time it occurs.
What is discrimination? responding appropriately to stimuli that signal that behavior or will be reinforced
What is generalization? performing a reinforced behavior in a different situation
What is decay theory? when we learn something new, but over time this trace disintegrates
Who conditioned Albert with the white rabbit? Watson and Rayner
What is episodic memory? the retention of information about the where when and what of life's happenings
What is semantic memory? a person's knowledge about the world
What is the law of effect? Behaviors followed by satisfying outcomes are strengthened and behaviors followed by frustrating outcomes are weakend
What is explicit memory? the conscious recollection of information, such as specific facts and events
What is working memory? a combination of components, including short term memory and attention that allow us to hold information temporarily as we perform cognitive tasks
What is shaping? rewarding successive approximations of desired behavior
