| Term | Definition |

| Externalized Disorders | Disorders in which symptoms are often externalized or visable:oppositional defiance disorder, autism, psychosis, anorexia, schizophrenia etc |
| Internalized Disorders | Those whose symptoms are internalized or not visible: learning disorders, substance abuse, anxiety, depression etc. |
| Clinical Presentation | What we are seeing/hearing |
| Course of the Disorder | How does it differently now than it did before. How has the disorder progressed |
| Prognosis | Is it good or bad prognosis? Is it something that can be helped quickly or take time? Can it be helped at all? |
| Onset Causaility | when we first see signs, where did the disorder come from? |
| Maintenance Causaility | why do some people avoid something instead of "getting back on the horse". What is allowing the disorder to continue |
| Vulnerability | internal trait which predisposes people to a disorder. Can be genetic, family history or learned behavior. It can also be a thinking pattern, ie: negative thinking. |

| Axis 3 | Medical Conditions |
| Axis 4 | Environmental/psychosocial |
| Axis 5 | Global assessment of functioning. Used to use a number from 0-100 to assess level of functioning, now we just take note of their functioning |
| Self Report | what brings you here today. Important but not always the best, may present themselves more positively/negatively. Some might not be aware of what's wrong. Not the be all/end all |
| Direct Report | Reports from others; parents, teacher, etc. |
