Allegiance n. respect or loyalty, as to a nation, sovereign, or cause
Charter n. a document written by the king giving a colony the right to create a settlement and, in some ways, govern themselves
Hypocrite n. a person who pretends to be what he is not; one who does the opposite of what he/she says; pretender; faker
Notorious adj. generally known and talked of especially for a negative action or trait; widely and unfavorably known; infamous, shameful, unrespectable, disgraceful, dishonorable
Hospitality n. generous and friendly treatment; the activity of providing food, drinks, etc. for people who are the guests or customers; friendliness, kindness, generosity
Infectious adj. likely to spread or influence others in a rapid manner; irresistible, contagious, catching, transferable (like a disease OR laughter)
Quarrel n. an angry, verbal argument or disagreement, typically between people who are usually on good terms; squabble, dispute, altercation, falling-out
Senseless adj. lacking common sense; wildly foolish; without reason, meaning or purpose
Cautiously adv. In a careful way; thoroughly, closely, gently, deliberately, critically, carefully, diligently, tentatively
Contempt n. the feeling that a person or a thing is beneath consideration, worthless, or deserving scorn; disdain, disrespect, dislike, hatred, hostility
Dubiously adv. with distrust & doubt; distrustfully, mistrustfully, skeptically, suspiciously
Rankled v. annoyed, irritated, angered, enraged, furious, infuriated, mad, outraged
Curdle v. when a liquid thickens and forms clumps; to go bad or sour; become unfit for consumption or use
Disheartening adj. likely to lower morale; discouraging; disappointing; dismaying; depressing
Dismay n. apprehension or alarm; unpleasantly surprised
Hankering n. strong desire; craving; need; longing; obsession; hunger; yearning
Constraint n. repression or control of natural feelings or impulses; a forced unnatural manner; inhibition
Cowed adj. intimidated; physically and/or mentally afraid; scared; submissive; frightened
Grimly adv. appearing or acting in an uninviting or unnerving way; dismally; gloomily; ferociously; savagely
Punctilious adj. concerned about following rules exactly; extremely proper; meticulous; thorough; exact
Mocking adj. making fun of, teasing, or ridiculing by imitating action or speech
Pewter n. a container or utensil made of combined tin and lead
Grizzled adj. covered roughly in gray or partly gray hair
Ponder v. to think about or consider something deeply and thoroughly; meditate
Vanity n. excessive pride in one's appearance, qualities, abilities, achievements, etc.; character or quality of being vain; conceit
Unseemly adv. inappropriate for time or place; not in keeping with established rules of behavior and dress
Chagrin n. a feeling of annoyance and shame, humiliation, or embarrassment
Monotonous adj. lacking in variety, all the same, tedious, humdrum, boring, dull
