solution the "best mixed" mixture
pure substance made of only one kind of matter and has definite properties
element a pure substance that cannot be broken down into other substances by any chemical means
compound a pure substance formed from chemical combinations of two or more different elements
mass the measurement of how much matter an object contains
weight a measurement of the force of gravity on an object
volume the amount of space that matter occupies
density the measurement of how much mass is contained in a given volume
atoms the smallest particles of an element
molecule a group of atoms that are joined together and act as a single unit
chemical bond the force that holds two atoms together
electrolysis an electric current breaks the chemical bond that joins metal and other elements in the compound
electrode a metal strip in a battery
