Value of assessment depends on: | Reliability- The degree to which a measurement is consisted. Validity-The degree to which a tech. measures what it is designed to measure. Standardization- Application of certain standards to ensure consistency across different measurements. |
Classification System: | A system of distinct categories, indicators, and nomenclature for different pattens of behavior, thought processes, and emotional disturbances. |
Axis I: | Clinical syndromes and other conditions that may be a focus of clinical attention. |
Axis II: | Personality disorders and mental retardation |
Axis III: | General medical conditions |
Axis IV: | Psychosocial and Environmental Problems (Death of a family member, social isolation, homelessness, extreme poverty, etc.) |
Axis V: | Global assessment of functioning |
Clinicians primarily use four methods of assessment: | Observations, interviews, psychological tests and inventories, and neurological tests. |
