| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Physical Property | Any property used to characterize matter and energy and their interactions. |
| Chemical Property | A property used to characterize materialism reactions that change their identity. |
| Boiling Point | The temperature and pressure at which a liquid becomes a gas. |
| Melting Point | The temperature and pressure at which a solid becomes a liquid. |
| Freezing Point | The temperature at which a liquid turns into a solid when cooled. |
| Physical Change | A change of matter from one form to another without a change in chemical properties. |
| Chemical Change | A change that occurs when one or more substances change into entirely new substances with different properties. |
| Matter | Anything that has mass and takes up space. |
| Element | A substance that cannot be separated or broken down into simpler substances by chemical means. |
| Atom | The smallest unit of an element that maintains the chemical properties of that element. |
| Compound | A substance made up of atoms of two or more different atoms joined by chemical bonds. |
| Molecule | A group of atoms that are held together by chemical forces. |
| Pure Substance | A sample of matter, either a single element or a single compound, that has definite chemical and physical properties. |
| Mixture | A combination of two or more substances that are not chemically combined. |
| Homogeneous Mixture | A type of mixture in which the composition is uniform. |
| Heterogeneous Mixture | A type of mixture in which the combination can easily be identified since there are two or more phases present. |
| Solution | A homogeneous mixture throughout which two or more substances are uniformly dispersed. |
| Solubility | The ability of one substance to dissolve in another at a given temperature and pressure. |
| Saturated Solution | A solution that cannot dissolve any more solute under the given conditions. |
| Flammability | A property of a material relating to how easily the material ignites or sustains a combustion reaction. |
| Combustion | A chemical reaction that occurs between fuel and an oxidizing agent that produces energy. |
| Conductivity | The measure of the amount of electrical current a material can carry. |
| Viscosity | The resistance of a gas or liquid to flow. |
| Alloy | A solid or liquid mixture of two or more metals. |
