dependent variable the factor you measure to gather results

hypothesis tentative explanation for an experiment
independent variable the factor you wish to test and that is manipulated to be changes

operational definition a description of the one particular way in which you measure the dependent variable
theory A widely accepted explanation of observations and phenomena. A well tested explanation that is consistent with all available evidence
