chapter 11. vocab

TermDefinition
frame of reaference a system of object that are not moving with respect to one another.
Relative motion is movement in relation to the frame of reference.
Distance the length of the path between two points.
Vector is a quantity that has magnitude and direction.
resultant vector the vector sum of two or more vectors
speed is the ratio of the distance an object moves to the amount of time the object moves.
average speed is the total distance traveled divided by the time it takes to travel the distance
instantaneous speed is the rate at witch a given object is moving at a given moment in time.
velocity the speed and dirrection and object is moving
acceleration the rate at witch the velocity changes
free fall movement of an object toward earth solely because of gravity
constant acceleration is a steady change in velocity
linear graph in witch the data form a straight line parts
nonlinear graph a curve connects the data points that are plotted
