soluble capable of being dissolved in a solvent
insoluble incapable of being dissolved in a solvent
alloy a homogeneous mixture formed when two or more metals are melted together
symbol one or two letters used to represent the name of an element
molecule smallest particle of a compound
chemical formula a combination of symbols and numbers used to represent a chemical compound
chemical equation a shorthand method of representing a chemical reaction
coefficient large number placed before the formula of a compound/element ---used in the balancing of an equation
subscript small number found in a chemical formula---indicates the number of atoms of each element present in the molecule
