| Term | Definition |

| Hypothesis | an educated guess about the relationship between the independent and dependent variables. |
| Independent Variable | manipulated variable, is a factor that’s intentionally varied by the experimenter. |
| Dependent Variable | responding variable, is the factor that may change as a result of changes made in the independent variable. |
| Constant | all the factors that the experimenter attempts to keep the same. |
| Control Group | the group that serves as the standard of comparison. |
| Theory | 'proven' hypothesis, never been disproved |
| Conclusion | ending statement that either accepts or rejects the hypothesis |
| Analysis | process of breaking down data and relating it to the experiment |
| Data | facts or figures, evidence |
| Trial | refers to multiple groups that are exposed to the same conditions in an experiment. |
