science vocab words

TermDefinition
Hypothesis an explanation based on observed facts or an idea on how things work
ethics a persons sense of right and wrong
evidence information that helps prove somthing
observation information you get from your senses
inference logical conclusion based on observations
clinical trial an experiment on humans to see if the medicine works and if its safe
control group a group in a clinical trial that gets placebo. we use it to compare with treatment group.
placebo fake medicine that looks real
sample size the number of subjects in a study
informed consent a form that tells the volunteer the risks and what will happen in the trial. volunteer signs that they agree to take part.
placebo effect when patient takes placebo and gets better
reproducible an experiment that produces similar results each time.
variable something in an experiment that can change
independent variable the variable that is being tested
dependent variable the variable in an experiment that is measured
controlled variable variables in an experiment that are kept the same
