World Geography

Chapter 1 Vocabulary

1.Geography The study of earths surface.
2.GIS A geographic information system. (which is used by a comoputer system)
3.absolute location Its position on the globe.
4.Hemishere A half of the earth. It divides the southern and northeren, hemisphere.
5.Relative location The postion in a place in relation to another place.
6.Character of a Place The physical and human charecteritics that help to distinguish a place from another place.
7.Perception A view point that is influenced by ones own culture and expireince.
8.Formal Region A group of places that have that have similiar attributes for example a political region.
9.Functional Region A group of places connected by movement , for example the region drained by the Amazon River and its tributes.
10.Perceptual Region A group of places defined by peoples feelings and attitudes.
