computer literacy Computer literacy is defined as the knowledge and ability to use computers and technology efficiently.
computer an electronic device for storing and processing data, typically in binary form, according to instructions given to it in a variable program.
data facts and statistics collected together for reference or analysis. Usually stored on storage media such as a SSD , HDD , Flash Drive , SD Card , etc,.
information facts provided or learned about something or someone.
information processing cycle What is the information processing cycle? The sequence of events in processing information, which includes (1) input, (2) processing, (3) storage and (4) output. These processes work together and repeat over and over.
hardware Computers. the mechanical, magnetic, electronic, and electrical devices comprising a computer system, as the CPU, disk drives, keyboard, or screen.
input devices An input device is a peripheral device that converts symbols that people understand into bits that computers can process. An input device includes a keyboard, a terminal, a touch screen, a mouse, a scanner, etc.
output devices An output device is any piece of computer hardware equipment used to communicate the results of data processing carried out by an information processing system (such as a computer) which converts the electronically generated information readable
storage devices a device used to store digital data or information, as a hard disk or CD.
hard drive A disk drive that reads data stored on hard disks. Also called hard disk drive .
flash drive key drive pen drive thumb drive See also USB drive a pocket-sized portable computer hard drive and data storage device
system unit The main body of a computer, consisting of a plastic or metal enclosure, the motherboard, and (typically) internal disk drives, a power supply, cooling fans, and whatever circuit boards plugged into the mother board, such as a video card.
processor A part of a computer, such as the central processing unit, that performs calculations or other manipulations of data. A program that translates another program into a form acceptable by the computer being used.
memory virtual storage RAM , main store , Also called: store a part of a computer in which information is stored for immediate use by the central processing unit
motherboard a rigid, slotted board upon which other boards that contain the basic circuitry of a computer or of a computer component can be mounted.
communication devices Microphone or a video camara are considered a communication device over the intranet.
MODEM Device enabling transfer of data between computers via telephone or other communication lines
application software Application software is a defined subclass of computer software that employs the capabilities of a computer directly to a task that the user wishes to perform.
system software System software operates and controls computer hardware. Examples include device drivers, firmware, and operating systems (such as Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X or Linux).
personal computers personal computers are much smaller and are intended for one person. Ex: Laptops , Desktops
tablet pc A micro computer using strong CPUs and such.
digital pen A digital pen is an input device which captures the handwriting or brush strokes of a user
game consoles A video game console is an interactive computer that produces a video display signal which can be used with a display device (a television, monitor, etc.)
servers A server is a system (software and suitable computer hardware) that responds to requests across a computer network to provide, or help to provide, a network
mainframe computers Mainframe computers (colloquially referred to as "big iron") are computers used primarily by corporate and governmental organizations for critical applications
supercomputers A supercomputer is a computer at the frontline of contemporary processing capacity--particularly speed of calculation
