scientific method

TermDefinition
Scientific An organized set of investigation.
Hypothesis A possible explanation for a problem using what you know and what you observe.
Experiment Tests the effect of one thing on another using controlled conditions.
Variable Is a quantity that can have more than a single value.
Dependent Variable Its value changes according to the changes in the other variable.
Constant a factor that does not change when other variables change.
Control the standard by which the test results can be compared.
Bias when what the scientist expects changes how the results are viewed.
Model an idea ,event or object to help people understand it.
Theory an explanation of things or events based on knowledge gained from many observations and investigations.
Scientific Law a statement about what happens in nature and that seems to be true all the time.
Technology a application of science to help people.
standard an exact quantity that people agree to use to compare measurements.
SI are standard universally accepted and understood by scientist.
volume the amount of space occupied by an object.
mass a measurement of the quantity of matter in an object.
density mass per unit volume of a material.
graph display of information or data.
distance how far it has moved.
displacement is the distance and direction of an objects change in position from the starting point.
speed is the distance an object travels per unit of time.
average speed is the total distance traveled divided by the total time of travel.
instantaneous speed is the speed at a given point in time.
velocity includes the speed of an object and the direction of its motion.
accelertion is the rate of change of velocity.
force is a push or pull.
net force when two or more forces act on an object at the same time.
balanced force forces on an object that are equal in size and opposite in direction.
inertia is the tendency of an object to resist any change i its motion.
