Scientific Process

TermDefinition
Scientific Method An organized set of investigation procedures.
Hypothesis A possible explanation for a problem using what you know and what you observe.
Experiment The effect of one thing on another controlled conditions.
Variable Is a quantity that can have more than a single value.
dependent variable Factor that changes as a result of changes in the other variables.
Independent Variable Factor that, as it changes , affects the measure of another variable.
Constant A factor that does not change when other variables change.
control standard used for comparison of test results in an experiment.
bias occurs when a scientists expectations change how the results of an experiment are viewed.
model Can be used to represent an idea,object,or event that is too big,too small,too complex,or too dangerous to observe or test directly.
theory explantation of things or events that is based on knowledge gained from many observation and investigations.
scientific method organized set of investigatons procedures that include stating a problem,forming a hypothesis,researching and gathering information,testing a hypothesis,analyzing,and drawing conclusions.
technology application of science to help people.
standard exact,agreed upon quanitity used for comparsion
SI Interational system of unit the improved universtity accepted version of the metric system that is based on muliplies of ten and includes the meter, liter,and kilogram
Volume amount of space occupied by an object
Mass amount of matter in an object
Density Mass per unit volume of a material
Graph Visual display of information or data that can provide a quick way to communicate a lot of information and aloow scientist to observe patterns.
