Matter 3rd Grade Review

QuestionAnswer
Something you detect through the use of one or more of your senses. Observation
Grouping objects into two groups based on whether they have some property or not. Classification (binary classification)

Placing objects or events in order according to a particular property. OR Placing objects or events in order based on what occured first, second, and so forth. sequence
A question in which an experiment is needed to find the answer. testable question
A factor that is changed in an investigation. variable
A quantitative(measured) property that tells how much heat something has. temperature
Causes the molecules in matter to expand and move around very quickly and freely. Takes place when matter changes from a liquid to a gas. evaporation
Causes the molecules in matter to condense, or get closer, and move around less. Takes place when matter changes state from a gas to a liquid. condensation
The basic building blocks of matter. atoms
Water in its solid state. ice
Water in its gaseous state. water vapor (steam)
Anything that has mass and takes up space. Matter
This form of matter has a fixed shape and volume. solid
This form of matter changes shape to fit its container. It has a fixed volume. liquid
The form of matter that does not have a fixed shape or fixed volume. It spreads out and moves freely. gas
An observation in which the result will always be the same. scientific observation
An observation that is an opinion, everyone may not agree. unscientific observation
