TermDefinition
newsroom n. a room, as in a newspaper office or a radio or television station, in which news is prepared for release.
headline n. Large type designed to summarize a story and grab the reader's attention; usually an extra large font across top of front page, placed above or below the masthead.
copy n. a manuscript or other material to be set in type
newscast n. a radio or television broadcast of events in the news.
caption n. The portion of the layout that explains what is happening in a photograph. Also called cutlines. Often includes a photo credit.
newsprint n. inexpensive paper made from wood pulp, used chiefly for printing newspapers.
footage n.a portion of motion-picture film, especially an amount of film depicting a specified event or kind of action.
masthead n. the listing in a newspaper, magazine, or other publication of information about its staff and operation.
update v. to bring up to date
newsreel n. a short motion picture dealing with recent news events.
dateline n. a phrase at the beginning of a newspaper or magazine article that gives the date and place of its origin.
edition n. the entire number of copies of a publication printed from a single type-setting or other form of reproduction
sportscaster n. the person on the radio or television broadcast of a sports event or of sports news.
media n. a means of mass communication, as newspapers, magazines, or television
verify v. to prove the truth of by the presentation of evidence or testimony; substantiate
deliver v. to take to the intended recipient
exclusive adj. not divided or shared with others
coverage n. the extent or degree to which something is observed, analyzed, and reported.
editorial n. A type of story that serves to express an opinion and encourage the reader to take some action.
commentary n. a series of explanations or interpretations.
critique n. A critical review or commentary, especially one dealing with works of art or literature; detailed evaluation.
narrate v. To supply a running commentary for a movie or performance.
collate v. to assemble written information into a standard order.
journalism n. writing characterized by a direct presentation of facts or description of events without an attempt at interpretation.
photogenic n. attractive as a subject for photography
