Bonding lesson vocabulary practice

Valence electrons electrons in the outermost shell involved in forming chemical bonds to make compounds
Ionic compound a type of compound that is created by an ionic bond between two ions of opposite charge
Ionic bond a bond between a metal cation and a non-metal anion formed by the transferring of electrons

Cation positively charged ion
Anion negatively charged ion
Covalent compound a type of compound that is created by a covalent bond
Covalent bond a bond that results from the sharing of electrons between two atoms (usually two non-metals)
