Atoms lesson vocabulary practice

Atoms smallest particle of matter
Nucleus center of an atom
Protons positively charged particles found in the nucleus
Neutrons neutrally charged particles found in the nucleus
Electrons negatively charged particles found outside the nucleus
Atomic number the number of protons in the nucleus of an atom
Mass number number of protons plus the number of neutrons in the nucleus of an atom (can also be called Atomic Mass)
Ion an atom that gains or loses an electron
Anion an atom that is negatively charged because it gains electrons
Cation an atom that is positively charged because it looses electrons
Isotopes atoms of the same element with different numbers of neutrons
Elements building blocks of matter/made of atoms
Molecules two or more atoms of an element that are joined together
