These are the literary terms for Arabic and Persian Literature for English 10

| metaphor | comparison of two unlike things |
| simile | comparison of two unlike things using "like" or "as" |
| elegy | a poem dedicated to someone who has died or passed away. |
| invocation | the calling upon of Gods or Goddesses to assist in a task |
| setting, conflict, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution | you should know this by now |
| quatrain | 4 connected lines of poetry. |
| ruba'i | Arabic poetic form of a quatrain. Omar Kayyam's Rubayyat is a series of these poems. |
| analogy | a comparison of two things to show that they are alike in certain ways |
| didactic | the tone of teaching, preaching, or instruction |
| antithesis | the use of parallel structure for contrasting ideas. |
