Board of Pharmacy | State-managed agnecy that licenses pharmacists and may either register or license pharmacy technicians to work in pharmacy |
Certified Pharmacy Technician | Technician who has passed the national certification examination; the technician may use the abbreviation CPhT after his or her name |
Closed pharmacy | Pharmacy where medications are called in from institutions |
Communication | Ability to express oneself in a way that one is clearly understood |
Competency | Capability or proficiency to perform a function |
Confidentiality | Practice of keeping privileged customer information from being disclosed |
Continuing Education | Education beyond the basic technical education, usually required for license or certification renewal |
Ethics | Values and morals that are used within a profession |
Hyperlimentation | Parenteral nutrition for patients who are unable to solids or ingest liquids |
Inpatient Pharmacy | Hospital or institutional setting |
Institute for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians | National board for the certification of pharmacy technicians |
Licensed pharmacy technician | Pharmacy technician who is licensed by a state board of pharmacy |
Morals | Ethics; honorable beliefs |
National Association of Boards of Pharmacy | National organization for members of state boards of pharmacy |
National Pharmacy Technician Association | Pharmacy association primarily for technicians; founded in 1999 |
Outpatient pharmacy | Serve patients in their communities |
Parental Medications | Medications administered by injection |
Pharmacy Technician Certification Board | National board for the certification of pharmacy technicians |
Professionalism | Conforming to the right principles of conduct as accepted by others in the profession |
Protocol | Standard that is to be met by all employees |
Registered Pharmacy Technician | Pharmacy technician who is registered through the state board of pharmacy; does not guarantee degree of knowledge or skills |
Non-discretionary duties | Repetitive tasks that do not require any advanced pharmacy knowledge |
