atomic number the order of an element in Mendeleyev's table of the elements; equal to the number of protons in the nucleus or electrons in the neutral
isotope one of two or more atoms with the same atomic number but with different numbers of neutrons
mass number the sum of the number of neutrons and protons in an atomic nucleus
radioactive exhibiting or caused by radioactivity
stable not taking part readily in chemical change
