QuestionAnswer
What are main assumptions? The brain is a processor. Theory is not concerned by input but by processes used and output.
How is abnormality caused? Beck and Ellis's ABC model. NATs. Schemata.
Strengths Used by NHS. Relatively cheap and quick.
Weaknesses Victim-blaming. Not useful for psychoses. Ignores biology. 'Depressive realism'.
Treatments CBT. RET. SIT (3 stages)
Strengths of treatments Meichenbaums supports SIT. As effective as drugs for anxiety/depression.
Weaknesses of treatments Dwelling on subject could make more depressed.
