Main assumptions? Mental problems act the same way as physical and can be treated the same way.
How is abnormality caused? Genetics. Brain damage. Drugs.
Strengths Not victim-blaming. Schizophrenia runs in families - genetic.
Weaknesses Ignores past experiences. Ignores environmental influences. Difficult to diagnose - depression can be disorder or just a symptom.
Treatments Drugs. ECT. Psychosurgery.
Strengths of treatments ECT is useful for depression. Drugs are quick, cheap and effective.
Weaknesses of treatments Surgery never used as unethical and irreversible. ECT could damage brain. Dependency, withdrawal, side effects, treat symptoms not cause.
