AVID College Week Vocabulary
| Term | Definition |

| Undergraduate | A student in a university or college who has not received a first, especially a bachelor's degree. |
| Dormitory | A building, as at a college, containing a number of private or semiprivate rooms for residents, usually along with common bathroom facilities and recreation areas. |
| Bachelor's Degree | A degree awarded by a college or university to a person who has completed undergraduate studies. |
| Associate's Degree | A degree granted especially by junior colleges after completion of two years of study. |
| ACT | The ACT test is a test that high school students take to get in to colleges that take the ACT test. |
| SAT | The SAT test is a test that high school students take to get into colleges that take the SAT test. |
| Room and Board | Lodging and meals earned, purchased for a set fee, or otherwise provided. |
| Enrollment | The number of persons enrolled, as for a course or in a school. |
| HBCU | Historically Black Colleges and Universities. |
| Tuition | The charge or fee for instruction, as at a private school or a college or university. |
| Transcript | A written, typewritten, or printed copy; something transcribed or made by transcribing. |
| Financial Aid | Money to support a worthy person or cause. |
| FAFSA | A program to help students pay for college. |
| Liberal Arts | The academic course of instruction at a college intended to provide general knowledge and comprising the arts, humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences, as opposed to professional or technical subjects. |
| Major | a subject or field of study chosen by a student to represent his or her principal interest and upon which a large share of his or her efforts are concentrated: History was my major at college. |
| Minor | A subject or a course of study pursued by a student, especially a candidate for a degree, subordinately or supplementary to a major or principal subject or course. |
| Credit Hour | A unit of academic credit; one hour a week for an academic semester. |
| Scholarship | A sum of money or other aid granted to a student, because of merit, need, etc., to pursue his or her studies. |
| Public College | A public university is a university that is predominantly funded by public means through a national or sub national government, as opposed to private universities. |
| Private College | Private universities are universities not operated by governments, although many receive tax breaks, public student loans, and grants. |
| Technical College | Institute of technology is a designation employed for a wide range of learning institutions awarding different types of degrees and operating often at variable levels of the educational system. |
| Community College | A community college is a type of educational institution. |
| Vocational School | A vocational school (or trade school or career school), providing vocational education, is a school in which students are taught the skills needed to perform a particular job. |
