| phenomena | Events that happen in the world. |
| observations | Using your 5 senses to learn about the world around you. |
| hypothesis | Forming an opinion about how or why something happens; an educated guess. |
| inductive reasoning | The ability to use knowledge or experience to explain things. |
| experiment | Designed to prove or disprove a hypothesis. |
| variable | Condition, factor in an experiment. |
| independent (manipulated) variable | Factors you change in an experiment; what the experiment is testing. |
| dependent (responding) variable | This factor changes because of the independent variable. This factor is the change you measure in an experiment. |
| control variables | The factors in an experiment that you control- that don't change. |
| qualitative data | observations |
| quantitative data | measurement data |
| conclusion | Judgment based on observation and experimentation. |
