| Hellenistic | a period of Greek influence and power under Macedonia rule |
| Astronomy | a natural science that deals with the study of celestial objects (such as moons, planets, stars, nebulae, and galaxies |
| Philosopher | someone who uses reason to understand the world. In Greece, the earliest "thinkers" used reason to explain natural events. |
| Tragedy | a type of serious drama that ends in disaster for the main character. |
| Siege | Surround a city and try to break down their walls and/or cut off their supply to food and water. This will hopefully lead to surrendering. |
| Parthenon | the chief temple of the Greek goddess Athena on the hill of the Acropolis in Athens, Greece. |
| Plague | a widespread disease |
| Classical Period | Marked by great acheivements |
| Archaic Period | revival of Greek culture and civilization |
| archipelago | a chain of islands (Greece's islands form this) |
| Socrates | ancient Athenian philosopher |
| Alexander the Great | had the first global empire which was made up of Greece, Egypt, and Persia |
| hoplite | a heavily armed Greek foot soldier |
