Who devised the working memory model? Baddeley and Hitch
What are the four components of this model? Central executive. Phonological loop. Episodic buffer. The visuo-spatial sketchpad
What is the purpose of the first component? It has a supervisory function. It tells all the other components what to do and when to do it.
What is the purpose of the second component? Phonological store: processes the words you hear. Articulatory loop: rehearses sounds no longer than 2 seconds
What is the purpose of the third component? Chronological ordering. Passes memories from phonological loop to visuo-spatial sketchpad
What is the purpose of the fourth component? Creates/re-creates a mental image in your mind. Also used for sorting memories.
