| hibernate | to sleep through the winter to conserve energy |
| inherited trait | characteristic that is passed from parent to offspring |
| learned behavior | behavior that an animal develops by observing other animals/ or being taught |
| metamorphosis | changes in structure that an animal goes through in its life cycle |
| migration | seasonal movement of animals from one place to another |
| mimicry | one organism looking like another kind of organism in its environment so it can escape predators/ or catch prey |
