| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What is a wave? | A disturbance that transfers energy from place to place |
| What is a medium? | The material through which a wave passes through. |
| What are mechanical waves? | Waves that require a medium through which to travel. |
| What is a vibration? | The repeated back-and-forth or up-and-down motion. |
| What are transverse waves? | Waves that move in the medium through a right angle to the direction in which the waves travel. |
| What is a crest? | A high point of a wave. |
| What is a trough? | A low point in a wave. |
| What are longitudinal waves? | Waves that move the direction in which the waves travel. |
| What are compressions? | The parts where the coils that are close together. |
| What are rarefactions? | The parts where the coils are spread out. |
| What is amplitude? | The maximum distance that the particles of the medium carrying the wave move away from their rest positions. |
| What is frequency? | The number of complete waves that pass a given point in a certain amount of time. |
| What is a reflection? | The interaction with a surface. |
| What is the law of reflection? |
