Benign Fabrications Lies formulated in the interest of the receiver
Interpersonal Deception Theory This says deception is an interactional phenomenon in which both senders and receivers are involved, simultaneously encoding and decoding messages over time
Four Factor Model This tries to explain the underlying processes governing deceptive behaviors
Informations Manipulation Theory When talking to others, we typically assume that they will be cooperative, providing us information that is truthful and informative
Truth Bias Familiarity increased a person's confidence about judging veracity which leads to a perception that others are behaving honestly
Lie Bias Negative relationships lead to the perception that people are being dishonest
Probing effect This is when probing a suspect for more information causes third parties to perceive the suspect as more honest
Othello Error People will believe that if one thing is a lie everything is
Behavioral adaptation While being probed liars realize they are suspected of lying and alter their behaviors to be more believable
Control Behavior When lying people tend to limit movement and plan their actions
Sending Capacity Hypothesis This says that when people tell lies, they try to control their behaviors but, in the process pay more attention behaviors that send the most information
Nonstrategic Communication Behaviors that are beyond the liars control
