Muscarinic receptor antagonist on airway smooth muscles and glands for Asthma, COPD, Rhinitis. SE: Paralytic ileus, angioedema, bronchospasm, funky taste/dry mouth. Ipratropium, Tiotropium (long DOA)
Nonselective adrenergic agonist (on airway smooth muscle [Beta]->relaxation and bronchodilation) for Asthma, Anaphylaxis, Cardia arrest, Open-angle Glaucoma. SE: Cardiac arrhythmia (Beta1), HTN (Alpha1), tachycardia, palpitations, sweating, N/V, tremor Epinephrine
Beta 1 and 2 agonist (cardiac stimulation and bronchodilation) for Asthma. SE: tachycardia, palpitation, dizzy. Contra: tachycardia, angina pectoris. Isoproterenol
Selective Beta 2 agonist for Asthma, COPD. SE: less cardio effects. Albuterol, Levalbuterol (more Beta 2 selective)
Long Acting Beta 2 Agonist (not for acute asthma flares) for COPD, Asthma. Not to be used as monotherapy d/t inc risk of death from asthma Salmeterol
Nonselective PDE inhibitor/adenosine receptor antagonist for Asthma, COPD. SE: Ventricular arrhythmia, seizure. Theophylline, Aminophylline
Inhibits calcium transport into smooth muscle cells for Atrial paroxysmal tachycardia, barium poisoning, cerebral edema, eclampsia. SE: heart block, hypotension, prolonged bleeding. Contra: heart block, myocardial damage. delays preterm labor Magnesium sulfate
Mast-cell stabilizer for allergic/exercise induced asthma prophylaxis, allergic rhinitis, keratitis, keratoconjunctivitis. SE: funky taste, burning eye. More effective in kids and young adults Cromolyn
Mouse monoclonal antibod against high-affinity IgE receptor (decrease allergic response to asthma) for Asthma. very expensive Omalizumab
