Rights of medication administration

QuestionAnswer
Right patient The name received says the right name. Ex: Jame E Jones says James E Jones.
Right drug The physciian ordered a medication. Ex: Uracel and the patient received uracil
Right dose The dose to be administered. Ex: 1tsp and patient received 5mL.
Right route The way a patient should take the med. Ex: the bottle says for rectal use.
Right time The medication ordered is taken at the right time. Ex: the medication was ordered at bedtime. Patient took it at 9:00 PM.
Right reason Need to check the patient's medication and/or with the prescribing physician to be certain the medication ordered is correct for the patient.
The right to know All patients have the right to be educated about the medication they are receiving. This should include the reason, the effect, and the side effect of medications.
The right to refuse If a patient refuse a medication, this information should be documented in the patient's medical record.
Right technique The way a patient should take medication. Ex: under the tounge.
Right documentation Be sure that the right documentation is completed. Ex the nurse charted the medication be fore the patient received it.
