States of Matter
| Term | Definition |

| Substance | A definate compound that cannot be sperated by physical means. |
| Mixture | A variable compostion that is made up of two or more substances that can be seperated by physical means |
| Matter | Anything that has mass and takes up space. |
| Element | Makes up a substance and is made up of only one type of atom. *Anything on the periodic table! ***Example Hydrogen |
| Compounds | Materials that are made up of two or more elements combined. ***Example: C02 |
| Homogeneous Mixture | A mixture in which two substances are uniformally spread out. Also called a Solution |
| Heterogeneous Mixture | A mixture that has particals that do settle, and are big enough to distinguish the differences between the particals. Also, the particals are big enough to scatter light. |
| Suspension | A heterogeneous mixture that have large particals that do settle. |
| Physcial Property | The characteristics of a material that can be observed without changing the the makeup of the material. |
| Physical Change | A change that does not change the original substance of a material. |
| Chemical Property | Characteristics of a substance that goes through a change that changes the original makeup of the material. |
| Chemical Change | A change of a substance to another substance. |
