Fish anatomy

parts of a fish & their function

What is the function of the gills? They allow the fish to breathe. They take oxygen from the water & put CO2 back into the water.
What is the function of the dorsal fin? Stabalizes the fish; Keeps the fish upright.
What is the function of caudal fin? It helps to propel the fish forward.
What is the function of the pectoral fins? It moves the fish forward and helps the fish stop.
What is the function of scales? They protect the fish.
What is the function of the tongue? It moves food to the back of the throat.
What is the function of esophagus? It moves the food from the mouth to the stomach.
What is the function of stomach? It is a sac-like organ that digests the food.
What is the function of liver? It produces bile which helps break down fats.
What is the function of gall bladder? It stores extra bile.
What is the function of the intestines? They digest food and absorbs the nutrients into the blood.
What is the function of the swim bladder? It allows the fish to stay at a certain depth.
