Parasympathetic Nervous System The subsystem of the autonomic nervous system that typically influences activity related to the protection, nourishment, and growth of the body.
Sympathetic Nervous System The subsystem of the autonomic nervous system that usually prepares you for vigorous activity.
Cerebral Cortex Largest, upper portion of the brain, memory, sensory, voluntary motion.
Cerebellum lower portion of brain that coordinates motor control.
Locus Coeruleus Nucleus of the brain stem that controls physical response to panic.
Medulla Area in hindbrain that controls involuntary systems like heartbeat and body temperature.
Broca's Aphasia When Broca's area gets changed, producing a mental disorganization of speech.
Split Brain Operation An operation intended to cure patients with severe epilepsy through severing the corpus callosum, therefore separating the two halfs of the brain.
Wernicke's Aphasia Damage to Wernicke'sarea, producing confusion understanding the meaning of words as well as an inability to speak comprehensively.
