| Term | Definition |

| Chemical Change | A change that occurs in a substance that cannot be reversed or undone. The change results in an entirely different substance, such as a piece of wood burning and becoming ash; iron changing to rust; or separate ingredients becoming a cake. |
| Dissolve | When substances form a solution. Example: Sugar dissolving in water. |
| Maintain | To retain properties. |
| Mixture | A collection of materials in which the materials do not join together and each material keeps in own physical properties. Example: salad, sand & salt, iron filings |
| Physical Change | A change in a substance that does not alter its chemical makeup. Example: Cutting a piece of paper. |
| Sequence | The following of one thing after another. |
| Soluble | The ability to be dissolved. Example: Sugar is soluble in water, but ground pepper is not. |
| Solution | A type of mixture in which the ingredients are thoroughly mixed together (usually with a liquid), such as lemonade, tea or saltwater. A solution can be separated, but not easily. |
| Weight | The measure of the amount of matter and the force of gravity on an object. Weight is NOT mass. |
