Population Pyramid Geoterms

TermDefinition
Demography The study of human populations, and how they change due to births, deaths, aging, and migration
Dependency ratio The number of old and young people who don't work compared with the number of people who do work
Life expectancy The average age a person is likely to live
Replacement rate The total fertility rate needed for a population to replace itself
Total fertility rate the average number of children a woman will have in her lifetime
Pension A fixed amount of money paid to a retired person by a government or former employer
Baby boom A sudden increase in the birth rate
Cohort A group or section, for example 0-4 is one cohort on a population pyramid
