| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Boiling Point | The temperature at which a liquid boils. Example: Water boils at 100 degrees Celsius. |
| Condensation | The process by which a gas changes back into a liquid, due to cooling. |
| Evaporation | The process by which a liquid becomes a gas,due to an addition of heat. |
| Freezing Point | The temperature at which a liquid freezes. Example: Water freezes at 0 degrees Celsius. |
| Gas | A state of matter in which the molecules are very spread apart. A gas has neither a definite shape or volume. Example: Water Vapor, Carbon Dioxide (CO2), or Oxygen (O2). |
| Liquid | The state of matter in which the molecules are somewhat close together. It has a definite volume but no definite shape. Example: water, milk, gasoline. |
| Mass | The amount of matter in an object. Mass is NOT dependent on the force of gravity, therefore it is NOT the same as weight. |
| Matter | Anything that has mass and takes up space. |
| Melting Point | The temperature at which a solid changes into a liquid. Example: Ice melts at 0 degrees Celsius. |
| Molecule | The smallest particle of a substance that retains all the properties of the substance. |
| Properties | A quality or trait belonging to an individual or thing. Can be used to identify substances. |
| Solid | A state of matter in which the molecules are tightly packed together. A solid has a definite shape and volume. Example: Ice, Wood |
