overgraze to allow animals to strip areas so bare that plants cannot grow back
refugee person who flees to another country to avoid persecution or disaster
immigrant A person who comes to live permanently in a foreign country
genocide A large killing of a group of people because of ethnic group or nation
savanna A grassy plain in tropical and subtropical regions with few trees
subsistence farm farming that provides for the basic needs of the farmer without surpluses for marketing
