Deforestation Widespread cutting of forests
Desertifacaition Process by which grasslands change to desert
Drought Long period of time of extreme dryness and water shortage
Genocide Mass murder of a people because of their race, religion, ethnicity,politics, or culture
Immigrant Person who moves to a new country to make a permanent home
Imperialism System of building foreign empires for military and trade advantages
Indigenous Native to or originating from a place
Industriallized Country Country in whicha great deal of manufacturing occurs
Literacy Rate Percentage of people who can read and write
Overgraze To allow animals to strip areas so bear that plants cannot grow back
Refugee Person who flees to another country to avoid perseecution or disaster
Savanna Broad grassland with few trees, found in tropics
Subsistence Farm Small plot where a farmer grows only enough food to feed his own and family
