Colony Overseas territory or settlement tied to a parent county
Coral Reef Structure formed by skeletons on small sea animals
Deforestation Widespread cutting of forests
Desertification Process which grasslands change to desert
Drought Long period of extreme dryness and water shortages
Genocide Mass murder of people because of their race, religion, ethnicity, politics or culture
Immigrant A person who moves to a new county to make a home
Imperialism System of building foreign empires for military and trade advantages
Indigenous Native or originating to a place
Industrialized Economy Country in which great deal of manufacturing occurs
Literacy Rate Percentage of people who can read and write
Overgraze To allow animals to strip areas so bare plants can not grow back
Refugee Person who flees to another country to avoid persecution or disaster
Savanna Broad grassland with few trees, found in tropics
Subsistence Farm Small plot where farmer grows only enough food to feed his family
