Lung Volumes

Tidal volume the volume of air inspired and expired on a normal breath (sitting in class) 500mL
Inspiratory reserve volume maximum inspiration after a normal tidal inspiration (breath in normal, then take deep breath) 3000mL
Expiratory reserve volume the extra volume of air that can be expired after a tidal expiration (breath out normal, then breath out as much as possible) 1200mL
Residual volume the volume of air left in the lungs after a forced expiration (always have some air in lungs) 1200mL
