TermDefinition
ANALYZE To take a problem apart and look at all of its pieces then describe things about the problem
SUMMARIZE To tell the main idea of a selection or reading passage in a few sentences that embody the most important points
DESCRIBE To give specific details about a character, event or a thing
PREDICT To guess what happens next...because of things you have already read and/or learned in the book or reading passage.
COMPARE To look at characteristics of 2 or more things to find out what is alike (the same).
EXPLAIN To make clear; includes the words "because" and/or "why" in your response
IDENTIFY To find the thing that question is talking about; to tell what it is; to make a specific thing known to others
TRACE To follow each step in the order they occur using descriptive words and often time order words
DEFINE To give a definition of a word; to give meaning
CONSTRUCT To build, create, make or write something
CREATE To produce something
INTERPRET To make clear the meaning of something that is being asked
DEMONSTRATE To show something clearly by examples, experiments and/or real life situations
LOCATE Find by looking, examining, uncovering or experimenting
USE To directly do something for a goal
INFER Using clues from what you have read, seen or heard combined with what you already know to draw a conclusion or to make an educated guess
EVALUATE To determine the value or significance of something. To make a thoughtful judgment of something after examining it
CONTRAST To look at the characteristics of 2 or more things to find out what is different about them
CONCLUDE To reach a decision or result after carefully evaluating different ideas and/or the facts
JUSTIFY To provide factual information and evidence to show why something is right or true
