| Term | Definition |

| ANALYZE | To take a problem apart and look at all of its pieces then describe things about the problem |
| SUMMARIZE | To tell the main idea of a selection or reading passage in a few sentences that embody the most important points |
| DESCRIBE | To give specific details about a character, event or a thing |
| PREDICT | To guess what happens next...because of things you have already read and/or learned in the book or reading passage. |
| COMPARE | To look at characteristics of 2 or more things to find out what is alike (the same). |
| EXPLAIN | To make clear; includes the words "because" and/or "why" in your response |
| IDENTIFY | To find the thing that question is talking about; to tell what it is; to make a specific thing known to others |
| TRACE | To follow each step in the order they occur using descriptive words and often time order words |
| DEFINE | To give a definition of a word; to give meaning |
| CONSTRUCT | To build, create, make or write something |
| CREATE | To produce something |
| INTERPRET | To make clear the meaning of something that is being asked |
| DEMONSTRATE | To show something clearly by examples, experiments and/or real life situations |
| LOCATE | Find by looking, examining, uncovering or experimenting |
| USE | To directly do something for a goal |
| INFER | Using clues from what you have read, seen or heard combined with what you already know to draw a conclusion or to make an educated guess |
| EVALUATE | To determine the value or significance of something. To make a thoughtful judgment of something after examining it |
| CONTRAST | To look at the characteristics of 2 or more things to find out what is different about them |
| CONCLUDE | To reach a decision or result after carefully evaluating different ideas and/or the facts |
| JUSTIFY | To provide factual information and evidence to show why something is right or true |
